About This Handmade Bead Artwork
Unlike the floral works in the collection, this piece is entirely geometric. A large medallion in cobalt, sky blue and red sits on a warm saffron-ochre field; it is filled with hooked, key-like shapes around a small central star of blue, yellow and green.
Two small octagonal rosettes in green, red and yellow mark the vertical axis above and below the medallion, and angular hooked figures in red, turquoise, green and pink occupy the four corners of the field.
The field is framed by several narrow bands — yellow, orange and sky blue with a zigzag edge — and by a wide white border that interlaces into a chain of cells, each filled with turquoise, burgundy and green hooked motifs. Every bead was woven in individually by hand; the work is photographed in a striped wooden frame.
